Nov Wed 12, 5: Jan Thu 01, 1: There are seven bathtub capacitors in this set. I restuffed four of them. The other three I was able to place the new capacitor along side of the can and have it look very neat in appearance. The chassis cleaned up easily with a mix of amonia and water. Mostly dust on there and none of the expected grime you’d find on a set of this age.
The odd thing I found was that the 6BA6 tubes on the chassis were all replaced with Ratheyon’s with yellow print and made in Japan. I replaced it with a USA Sylvania. Otherwise, the rest of the tubes on the chassis tested good. I bought some of that St James Grey paint from Nebraska sales and topcoated the cabinet. There were some scratches on the top of the cabinet that I felt detracted from the nice condition of the radio.
That went well, and now the cabinet has a clean, fresh appearance to it. Thankfully, the front radio panel is very nice and will require no touch up at all.
