’73 Fender Champ Speaker Question

Magneto ignition – perhaps the bane of antique motorcyclists. Just the thought of having to work on one runs shivers up many a veteran rider’s spine. Why does the magneto have such an aura of the supernatural about it? Probably because most folks don’t understand how they work. It’s not their fault, even back in the heyday of the motorcycle magnetos, only a few skilled craftsman were trained in their operation. Fast forward 70 years and there are less than a handful who really understand them and are willing to undertake repairs.

Amongst the leg and foot prosthetics, the Flex-Foot Cheetah carbon fiber running blades stand out in that rather than simply giving a person the ability to ambulate, they store kinetic energy more effectively than a normal biological foot providing enhancement over the un-augmented. The last image in the hand and arm prosthesis category is the multi-attachment arm. These abilities may seem rather trivial but remember at a poorly planned gathering, the corkscrew-handed man is king.

From Columbia University, he used the implant to control a robotic arm at the University of Reading half a world away.

All paper capacitors and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with high quality modern replacements. Tubes replaced as needed as well as any other defective parts. They are quite rare and very hard to find in such pristine condition. It still has the original patina, dark brown and copper just like the factory produced them. So many of these radios have had the patina polished away, missing the reins or the saddle. Blake has replaced all of the paper capacitors, tested and replaced bad resistors and checked all of the tubes. He performed a proper alignment, making this little five-tube, AM only radio play like new.

A very cool gift for that horse lover, or man cave. Here is another one of a kind radio design! This Abbotwares “Horse with Saddle” is seldom seen, and when found is usually missing its saddle. It came from the estate of a Doctor in Auburn, Maine, who collected only the best of each radio.

He had come back from Oxford University hoping to work in plasma physics and the nearest he could manage was in CSIRO radiophysics research where he began work on simulating the origin of cosmic microwave noise using plasma columns. Davies was responsible for purification and transistor production and co-worker Brian Cooper was responsible for testing the transistors that were produced and developing applications for them. Their work attracted attention. Soon they were delivering a course of lectures to the Australian electronics industry and government departments such as defence.

Can you recommend products suitable for the European power grid that can be used to clean up the power signal and ground loops? I am experiencing both ground loops and a generally dodgy power signal.

Versatility Plus by Jack Bayha A new microphone aimed at answering every recording need with widely reliable frequency response has been introduced by Electro-Voice, Inc. This is the , a cardioid dynamic mike, with a transistorized preamplifier. The E-V is the result, we suspect, of repeated listening on the part of the E-V Sales Department to requests for a higher level output, a lower level output, more highs, more lows, less lows, and other assorted recording studio requests.

Based on the widely used and popular , the represents their answer to the need for a widely flexible high fidelity recording microphone of the finest quality. We heard about the E-V well before it was public knowledge, and wondered just how it was possible to do all the things we had heard it would do. Of course the answer was obvious: As far as we can ascertain, the E-V is merely a with a transistor amplifier, but what this little chrome-plated box can do is fabulous.

We had an E-V in our possession for a month, and ran it through our usual tests. This was not easy, however.

Minor condition problems were present, mostly in the form of surface rust. The most significant rust damage had occurred on the back of the power supply case and the front of the power amplifier case. As for the receiver, some minor rust was present on the case mounting lips but the most serious rust was located in the RF coil section of the chassis. Most of the electrolytics had been replaced over the years, a coaxial cable was installed to replace a shielded cable in Receiver B, the Master RF Gain and Audio Gain controls had been replaced along with a handful of other resistors and capacitors but the essentially the receiver was complete and no modifications had be installed – just repairs.

The plastic dial scales were yellowed and warped – typical of certain plastics at that time. The finish on the wooden top and on the speaker console was original.

The possible environmental impact of the recent increase in use of a group of technology-critical elements (Nb, Ta, Ga, In, Ge and Te) is analysed by reviewing published concentration profiles in environmental archives (ice cores, ombrotrophic peat bogs, freshwater sediments and moss surveys) and evaluating temporal trends in surface waters.

Any amp could have an export power transformer, so an X is possible as well. Estimated start of production is early to mid April , or about two months prior to final tech date. A ridiculous option known as the series was also available. The Watt, Six 6L6 powered behemoth could be ordered with all the classic options and had a half power switch. Almost all had a limiter circuit to reduce the ouput volume of these Boogie watts.

These were very interesting times at Mesa. I could imagine Mesa having to call on all outstanding IIC orders and asking if they wanted the upgrade. The amp may have the or the PT. For those seeking originality, the would be the production transformer. Again, it is up to your personal preference. A simple serial number should dispel any questions.

Although the original modifications proved to be a move in the right direction, I am sure that the tone obsessed duo would not be satisfied until they nailed it. The final design did not go into production until about February This circuit has the tendency for extreme gain and brightness.

Submit your Guitar How old is my vintage amplifier? There are several ways to determine when a Fender amp was produced. First use the cosmetic features to get a range of possible years. Next, if applicable look for the date code on the tube chart. Remember, many components could have been changed over the years, speakers blow, caps dry out, transformers melt down, and pots wear out. Here is a cool link to a Vintage Fender Amp price history chart that tracks sales data for specific amp models by the month.

Wide panel, narrow panel, brown, blonde, and black face amps have a date code hand-stamped on the tube chart. This code is made up of two letters. The first letter translates to the year and the second to the month. The reissue amps also made use of this code. Electronic components such as transformers, potentiometers, speakers, and some capacitors are often stampted with a date code indicating who manufactured them and when.

The code follows the format: Remember, your amp is newer than the newest component.

All of those receivers were based on the NC receiver with some special modifications for airport communications. The receiver was designated RCR and it represents the last of the “Moving Coil” receivers that National produced for airport communication use.

All of those receivers were based on the NC receiver with some special modifications for airport communications. In or ’48, National was given a contract for an Airport Receiver that would be based on their then current production commercial communication receiver, the NC CS. The receiver was designated RCR and it represents the last of the “Moving Coil” receivers that National produced for airport communication use. The RCR was built for contract number Cca The NC CS dial scale is the most obvious with its light amber color – quite different from the cream color dial of the standard NC D.

The other change is the data plate that identifies the receiver. The RCR and the NC CS provide a Z ohm and an 8Z ohm audio output along with an option to allow a 10K Z ohm input the essentially parallels the audio output transformer in the receiver with another audio output transformer mounted on the speaker. This allowed using the regular National table speaker if desired. Also, one could opt for the rack mount version of the speaker. It was also acceptable to just use the Z or 8Z ohm outputs for audio output connections.

The audio output uses push-pull 6V6 tubes which differs from previous National Airport Receivers that used single audio output tubes. Since the RCR is a commercial receiver it doesn’t have amateur bandspread coils and its six bands covers kc to kc Band F and then 1.

Part One, – Introduction; Prewar Equipment General Electric was an already well established manufacturer of a broad spectrum of electrical and electronic material when it decided to enter the land mobile police radio market in GE’s initial land mobile radio products were mobile and motorcycle receivers for the AM medium frequency police channels in the and KHz bands, and in the early ‘s the company branched out with an experimental VHF AM two way set, using a super-regenerative receiver, but which was more or less a toy rather than a serious police tool.

Inevitably, there will be “holes” in data coverage in any project like this, and I do not have enough information, manuals or examples of equipment to make this page an absolutely complete reference. For example, I do not have photos or detailed descriptions of the motorcycle and mobile equipment made by GE prior to , other than that below, so while mentioned here, it is not covered in any detail.

Equally unfortunate is that I have little information on GE’s line of medium frequency and VHF AM equipment built prior to , hence it is not covered here other than the 2-way item directly below. This equipment was built and designed at the GE Schenectady plant.

Nov Wed 12, 5: Jan Thu 01, 1: There are seven bathtub capacitors in this set. I restuffed four of them. The other three I was able to place the new capacitor along side of the can and have it look very neat in appearance. The chassis cleaned up easily with a mix of amonia and water. Mostly dust on there and none of the expected grime you’d find on a set of this age.

The odd thing I found was that the 6BA6 tubes on the chassis were all replaced with Ratheyon’s with yellow print and made in Japan. I replaced it with a USA Sylvania. Otherwise, the rest of the tubes on the chassis tested good. I bought some of that St James Grey paint from Nebraska sales and topcoated the cabinet. There were some scratches on the top of the cabinet that I felt detracted from the nice condition of the radio.

That went well, and now the cabinet has a clean, fresh appearance to it. Thankfully, the front radio panel is very nice and will require no touch up at all.
